À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ is launching a new hands-on electrical training program for students who want to prepare for real work in a growing skilled trade.
The new Electrical-Residential Journeyman Certificate is À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ’s first vocational and technical education program. The first cohort begins June 29, with limited seats available.
Students in the program will learn practical residential electrical skills through guided instruction, hands-on lab work, and direct experience with tools, wiring systems, safety practices, blueprints, and electrical equipment. The program is designed to help students prepare for entry-level work, apprenticeship opportunities, and future residential licensure pathways.
Learn by Doing
The Electrical-Residential Journeyman Certificate is built around hands-on learning. Students will practice the skills they need for residential electrical work, not just study them in a classroom.
The program also includes technology-enhanced learning, including VR/AR experiences. These tools help students see how electrical systems work and practice procedures in a safe setting before applying them in the lab.
Built for Real Life
This electrical certificate program is designed for students with busy schedules. The program takes about nine months to complete and offers evening classes, making it a practical option for students who may be working during the day.
Class sizes are limited so students can get more support from instructors and learn in a focused setting. The small cohort model helps create a stronger hands-on learning experience.
A Strong Start in a Skilled Trade
Electricians are needed across Utah and the United States. As experienced workers retire and new homes, buildings, and infrastructure projects are developed, the need for trained workers continues to grow.
For students who enjoy working with their hands, solving problems, and building useful skills, residential electrical training can be a strong place to start.
At À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ, students will also learn important workplace habits such as communication, dependability, responsibility, safety, and professionalism. As with all Ensign programs, these courses are offered in a faith-centered learning environment, where gospel principles blend with practical experience.
Preparing for Future Opportunities
Completing the Electrical-Residential Journeyman Certificate does not automatically make a student a licensed electrician. The program is designed to help students build foundational skills for entry-level residential electrical work, apprenticeship preparation, and future licensure pathways. Students who complete the program may be eligible to take the Residential Journeyman exam.
